眾所矚目 SPOTLIGHT
For whatever privileges I have, who has given
me those?
到底在今生今世之中,是誰賦予我的這種種的特權?
Two days ago, I was invited to take a look
at a sports game which I never experienced before, simply due to the reality
that the students are whom I have served for their English proficiency. Such a
sports game emphasizes on hierarchy, respect, and values. I have witnessed how
the younger ones, the middle-aged and the seniors interact with one another.
幾日前,我應邀前往觀賞一場體育盛會,這是種我從來沒有體驗過的競賽項目,而之所以能夠被邀請,是由於這樣的賽事中的成員有與我學習英語的、相對偏遠地帶的學生們。
在這樣的體育賽事中,我學習到他們如何有著長幼有序的精神以及務實的處理事務的態度。
Since some students were graduating, they
were invited to have a meal with the rest of the group of the more experienced
ones. In the mealtime, another senior friend of mine joined suit to encourage
those younger generations.
這些學生當中有些人已從中學畢業,他們被邀請到宴會的會場與我們這些師長們用餐,在此同時,尚且有我個人熟識的前輩到場,與在地的、外地的所有的師長前輩們,勉勵這些學生們。
“Teacher Hope, normally students travel to
other places to learn English. Here, they enjoy the special right to have you
traveling here to teach them. It is such a rare opportunity that I believe they
should cherish. In the future, they should be more disciplined and they need to
learn more from you!” One person who was present in the mealtime said. It had
made me think about just one day prior to that, in another occasion, I was
invited to sit with the locals who had fed me with such cuisines even though I was
in a hurry to teach the students; when I left due to the class session, I carried
their gifts of books, more cuisines, and red wine produced in the region.
席間,一位當地人士表示:「老師,其他人要學英語,是到補習班去,他們要配合老師們的時間,但這裡的學生不一樣,他們有您遠道而來教他們,我是覺得他們太幸運了,所以我們未來一定要更加督促他們尊師重道、一心向學,與您多多學習更多英語知識和表達方式!」
這位當地熱心人士的話語讓我想到就在宴席的前一天,我被邀請到另一場也是在地前輩們希望我出席的場合,席間大家力勸我在夜間仍有課程要授課前,盡量多吃一些,還送了我書籍、當地的葡萄酒、美食等等,讓我帶著走,深怕我餓著。
That occasion of me bringing their “presents”
reminded me of a while ago, at where I am teaching officially now, each faculty
member would receive a present with the locally famous cuisine called “Oily
Rice,” a much renowned local delicacy made by sticky rice, soy sauce, mushrooms,
and some non-vegetarian ingredients such as shrimps, pork, or chicken. I love
that kind of sticky rice itself very much. When I worked as a flight attendant,
as the training sessions were too tough, every time when I went back home, my Mom
would cook me some sticky rice to relieve my pressure and I am very grateful
for that. That day in the school, I never got the chance to appreciate the
cuisine of the specific “Oily Rice with Chicken” because I was in a hurry to go
to this other place where I needed to serve as a volunteer educationally. In the
end, though, the oily rice was on my plate that day when I was invited by the
elderly in the more remote region of Taiwan.
這個「拿當地特產」的場景讓我想到一件事—沒有多久之前,目前服務的單位發放油飯及雞腿,我由於趕赴外地進行服務工作而沒有領取,但實際上,油飯是我個人喜歡品嚐的食物之一,身為一位準空服人員時由於訓練嚴格,如有機會返家時所承受壓力通常不小,家母當時則常常替我準備一些自製油飯讓我抒壓,令我非常難忘而感恩。
自然,沒有料到就在我所服務的較偏遠地區,當地人士、前輩們,會特別為我準備不少油飯,讓我一餐還吃不完的量,徹底滿足我對油飯的痴心妄想般,補上了在目前工作單位沒有拿雞腿油飯的事情似的。
Those that belong to us would eventually arrive in our lives, I guess.
那些屬於我們的,總是大約絲毫不差地來到我們的生命之中,是吧?!
“We are all from this countryside. Thank you
for coming here.” They told me.
這些前輩說「我們都是庄卡人,實在很謝謝老師妳到我們這裡來教我們的孩子們。」
在雨中,有很多感動,分不清到底是教書辛苦流下的汗水,還是感動流下的淚水……
In the rain, I was very much touched, so
much so that I could not distinguish whether the liquid came from my sweat
after teaching the students or the touching moments one after another due to all
these different scenes combined.
Later on, I learned that I was nominated to
be the hostess of an important occasion which would see all these sportsmen
across generations to attend. I heard it will be an enormously impressive banquet. How will I host
such an event? I do not have a clue.
之後我得知,大家要我作為這樣的一個體育賽事的多元單位結合過程裡面,所興辦的大型聚會的主持人。
怎麼主持?
如何能夠做到好?
我不知道。
我想到自己在國慶典禮上擔任司儀,當時,到底怎麼會變成那樣的司儀? 今天,又怎麼會變成大家挑選出的體育盛會主持人?
I cannot help but ponder such questions.
我一直在往返的過程裡面,詢問自己這些問題。
In just one day, today, I have communicated with people across continents regarding things, good things, beneficial things I need
to work for those who are in need. Furthermore, I have discussed with talents
from different fields in terms of how better to present ideas in English so
people would be able to understand when Mandarin Chinese is in between.
而就在今天一天之中,我和幾個大洲的人士溝通相關於服務事項的議題,一些如何能夠讓各地的人士有更好的生存條件的事宜。我也和一些人事討論著如何可以將英語作更流暢的使用,使更多人能夠從中文和英語的語言轉換中受益。
“How are you?” I try to ask myself.
我試問自己:「妳怎麼樣了?覺得還好嗎」
Perhaps the answer should be from some other people instead of myself?
I look at my pupils who look at me
lovingly. Several of them could not stop themselves but telling me “Teacher,
you look so pretty!” It also happens today, just on this day. Their words
reminded me of a 20 or 30-year-old something vender I had seen in the
traditional market where I had been. While touting for business, he suddenly froze when he spotted me passing through. Looking at me while murmuring
to himself, he described
“How can a lady look so elegant?”
我想也許我不大需要自己給出答案,而是從別人眼中看到應該的選項……
我的學生們忍不住跑到我的面前說:「泡芙老師,妳好漂亮哦。」
前兩天在傳統市場裡面,一位二、三十歲的青年菜販正在叫賣,非常認真,但當他的目光正好到達我這裡的時候,他停止了叫賣的動作,非常專心的看著我,等我走過他的跟前,聽到他喃喃自語說:
「怎麼有人可以這麼優雅?」
When it is the sunset hours today, when
people have to stop working and go home, I was embraced wholeheartedly by a
person whom I have respected highly—that hug has been a pending one which both
of us have waited for a while. Now that it has come, and it makes sense to me
for all these things taking place like peaceful hurricanes in my life that I am
supposed to be here, to make things and occasions better, and to learn more so
that I can produce better results in every direction I cover.
到了今天的下班時間,華燈初上,我與一位自己非常敬重的專業前輩相擁,這個擁抱得來不易,也是一種惺惺相惜的擁抱,一種在我自己協助他人的歷程當中,能夠與人相應的擁抱。
也許一直以來我就是這樣擁抱了生命,於是,生活之中的所有繁星點點化作令我無限感動的點點繁星,照亮我的前路,始終那樣溫暖而平實。
我真的沒有料想鎂光燈會照到我的跟前、我的身上;我想,我只是從來簡簡單單把事情認認真真完成,於是,活得再好也不過,並且希望有更多人享有生活中萬眾矚目的吉光片羽,給自己加油,也為別人加油。所以在學期結束前、在暑期訓練時,希望給人們一些不同的想像空間,讓每個人都在鎂光燈前,成為閃耀的星星,讓我更加有著感動的學習,也因為學習而感動。
I've never really imagined that the spotlight should be on me. I believe I've only simply tried to complete my tasks; eventually, I have a much filfilled life in which I hopd that more can enjoy the spotlights on them, that they are encouraged by the others or by themselves.
Based on these spotlights illuminating everyone, I am much certain I can learn a lot more and be touched by all these lessons for me to learn!
