An Uninvited Visitor

This story, dedicated to those who are forever young, is based on true events.

I  What happened?

During the second class hour, Hsin-Hsin screamed out loud, making every classmate of hers scared. At such a moment, all her classmates were learning about the WIND, like where the wind was from and how to discover wind had come.

Is Hisn-Hsin crying for the wind to arrive?

Nevertheless, no one told Hsin-Hsins classmates that by yelling, wind would come.

What has happened to you? Hsin-Hsins homeroom teacher asked Hsin-Hsin.

Hsin-Hsin is a girl with big eyes showing her remarkable level of intelligence. She is an adorable young lady who has behaved so well that she can even help her teachers with different chores.

However, Hsin-Hsins level of confidence has disappeared at present. In her eyes, tremendous amount of fears surfaced. As if intimidated by certain things people could not comprehend, Hsin-Hsin pointed out that

Ms. Tiffany, theres something in my shoe.

While looking down, Hsin-Hsins teacher found Hsin-Hsin already kicked one of her shoes away: Hsin-Hsin rested her foot on another shoe which she still wore. Hsin-Hsin was wearing colorful long socks the very day. With her braided hair, Hsin-Hsin looked quite lively in the otherwise well organized classroom.

Hsin-Hsins teacher asked, Something is in your shoe... What do you think it is?

II  An Unwanted Guest

Hsin-Hsin explained with a very tiny voice. Miss Tiffany, I feel it is a cockroach.

Tiffany is Hsin-Hsins home room teacher. Her students have nicknamed her Titanic, for she is a big, round lady who enjoys wearing dresses that are blue or bright blue in color. After knowing Hsin-Hsins headache, Miss Titanic, dressed in her light-blue dress, swam here and there in the classroom, searching for the stick she saved for the science project.

By using the stick, Miss Titanic would like to know what bothered Hsin-Hsin, who took a breath of relief once Miss Titanic rolled back to her again. All Hsin-Hsins classmates were also waiting with unusual expectancy.

Meanwhile, that cockroach inside Hsin-Hsin's shoe, Mr. Cockroach, might have realized he had become the center of attraction; as a result, he peeked from Hsin-Hsins shoe, which had frightened Miss Titanic very much.

Letting out a sudden, piercing shriek, Miss Titanic dropped the stick on the ground and ran for her life. Every child in the classroom was at this very moment overly excited, as Miss Titanics dress waved away from the classroomthe whole roomful of 8-year-old student were apparently out of control.

Quickly, Miss Titanic came back with Uncle Iron, the clever handyman working inside the school. Immediately Uncle Iron lifted the shoe high up in the air; with that, the cockroach landed on the ground.

Miss Titanic had returned back to her own senses while Uncle Iron watched the incidence with curiosity. Miss Titanic approached Hsin-Hsin, showing signs of her inquisitive nature. Nonetheless, Hsin-Hsin began saying things even before Miss Titanic.

Miss Tiffany, when I wore my shoes this morning, there was absolutely nothing inside any of it.

Miss Titanic opened her little eyes to the largest by expressing her idea in an exaggerated, absolutely startled fashion. That means we all play magic which would usher the cockroach into your shoe? She inquired.

Hsin-Hsin shook her head.

How in the world would that cockroach end up sitting inside your shoe? Miss Titanic asked again.

Once more, Hsin-Hsin shook her head. Besides, she emphatically remarked, I do not know.

Miss Titanic did not voice anything anymore. She carried Mr. Cockroach by using a poster inside the classroom to the flower bed near the classroom.

Why would Mr. Cockroach be so obedient that he would not run at all?

In fact, one of Mr. Cockroach's legs was broken, leaving him much limped.

How did the leg got broken?

It was due to his staying at Hsin-Hsins shoe that Hsin-Hsin broke his leg by wearing her shoe.

He endured so much pain.

III  Reflections

If, when we are learning something very different, like wind, as a lesson, yet, something very unexpected took place, like a cockroach in Hsin-Hsins shoe, what should we do?

What sorts of unexpected incidences can leave a mark in our memory?

What kind of attitude can we apply to face these unexpected incidences? Do we get rid of them by blowing them away, just like wind?

Before those unexpected incidences take place, will we get ready for them? Or, since these unexpected incidences are with the nature of being allusive, there is no need for us to be prepared?
