LOVE到底是什麼樣子呢? What Does Love Look and Feel Like?
“I want to know what love is.
I want you to show me.”
These would be the words
I heard while traveling to the new place where I work.
Just by the time I was
about to enter the urban center where I work now, the song was aired, an
old-fashioned song sung by someone who vividly describes the lack of his and
how he wants such void to be fulfilled.
“Aren’t we all the
same?” I asked myself. “We are all looking for that kind of love helping us to weather
through those tough moments.
Once I read that “Excellence
is love in action,” which I cannot agree more. Furthermore, I read about how when people love
the others, they give to those they care about selflessly. I think about those
whom I have met demonstrating such loving kindness to the others—Ms. Wong who has
painted her entire neighborhood free of charge, Mr. Chang who has gathered
resources for those suffering from natural disasters, my foreign friends who
have shared with me how they have helped the others through the years, and many
similar others whom I have met throughout my career. These people have shown me
that in their actions, they become excellent role models I would like to follow.
It would be with such grace bestowed on my that I have had the pleasure meeting
so many people like them.
For someone like me, to
love means to practice loving kindness to every person around me. When I walked
into the new classroom, the entirely unfamiliar place to work, the first thing
I began doing was to clean the classroom itself, making sure all the windows,
chairs, and tables are neatly arranged. This kind of work reminded me of the
task of handling lavatories on board of aircrafts when I was a flight
attendant.
Like purifying my mind,
I enjoy cleaning these public areas where people come and go in my life. By
doing so, I find that beauty of serving the others can begin from the smallest
parts of our lives. When I cleaned those lavatories on board of different
aircrafts, I thought about how passengers would have enjoyed their time
traveling to different places in the world; when I made the new classroom of
mine teaching the students more comfortable, I expect we will have a great time
together.
For all these, I am
grateful that each and every day, I clean my thoughts and practice loving
kindness so that humbly, by giving and sharing the best part of me, when I
always carry that sense of reality when I am aware there are those who are
touched and changed due to me, towards better prospects with more sunshine, I
understand completely that my life is not in vain, that I am always making
things and people better, and that as they love me back, I am giving them the
best part of me, too.
When I was a little girl, I really hoped someone would be able to
show me what LOVE was. Fortunately, through all the places I have been, those
whom I have met, works that I have done, in correspondence with the sentences
in that song, I must merrily state that “I have already known what certain
kinds of love are like. How lucky I am!”
